FC Barcelona star Lamine Yamal revealed his hopes for the Spanish Super Cup final he helped his team reach by scoring against Athletic Club in the last four on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old was thrust straight back into the starting line up to face the Basques after recovering from an ankle injury picked up in mid-December.
After telling CNN that he will sign a new contract with his boyhood club, Lamine guaranteed it a place in the Spanish Super Cup decider in Saudi Arabia with the second goal of a 2-0 win.
Lamine first said to Movistar that he and his teammates were “very happy” with the win.
“In the end it was the goal, to be here until the final and win it. We’re very happy with the victory and to continue.
“Athletic is a very physical team, which makes you run a lot. It’s true that we suffered, especially at the end of the first half, but we knew how to play very well and we’re very happy,” reiterated Lamine.
“As long as the coach gives me the option, I’m happy to be able to help the team,” he then added.
Dani Olmo and Pau Victor finally being cleared to play by a Spanish court is something that also pleased Lamine.
The Kopa Trophy and Golden Boy award holder hopes that they can play some part in the final on Sunday, against one of the other semifinalists in reigning La Liga champion Real Madrid or last season’s Copa del Rey runner up RCD Mallorca, who meet on Thursday evening.
“In the end we are very happy that they can play now, I hope that in the final they will be with us. If the coach puts them on, let them give it their all.
“I’m very happy for both of them. It’s normal to be angry when you can’t play, but when they give you news like that, you’re very happy. We are very happy for them,” Lamine said.
As for the final, the Euro 2024 winner admitted “it will be very difficult” before stressing “we hope to win it and return home with the title.”
