An American hero could spend the rest of his life in prison following an act of vigilantism in far-left Colorado.

As The New York Post reported on Wednesday, 29-year-old Orest Schur was sentenced to a whopping 54 years behind bars on August 15 by a Democrat judge for killing a 14-year-old named Xavier Kirk back in 2023 after the teen tried to steal his car outside his home.

A 13-year-old accomplice was also injured in the attack but survived. Schur fired multiple rounds at both youths as they sped away in a getaway vehicle.

District Court Judge Caryn A. Datz of Adams County, who was appointed by then Democratic Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper back in 2018, said there was no excuse for Schur killing Kirk.

Before his sentencing, Schur, who served as an intelligence analyst, broke down in tears in the Aurora courtroom and apologized for his actions.

“I am sorry for the events that occurred that night, for the pain, for the grief and trauma that have followed, and for the impact that my case had on so many lives,” a Schur told the courtroom.

Per the New York Post, here is the background on this case. Judge for yourself whether this over half-century jail sentence is justified:

Schur, then a technical sergeant with the US Space Force based in Aurora, was awakened by a car alarm outside his apartment around 11 p.m. July 5, 2023.

The then-27-year-old grabbed a pistol and ran outside to his Hyundai Elantra, where he spotted two people dressed in all black attempting to break into the car. Schur confronted the individuals, but the would-be carjackers fled in another car.

The sergeant gave chase in his car and fired multiple rounds at the teens. The fleeing car crashed into the backyard fence of a home four blocks south of Schur’s residence.

Kirk and his teen accomplice hopped out of the damaged car and began running away as Schur continued to fire. Kirk was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and back. He was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

The Post adds that the 13-year-old shot in the back but managed to escape by going to a relative’s house. He brought to a hospital and survived.

Schur was initially charged with first degree murder and first degree attempted murder following the incident. A jury, though, found him guilty of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder on June 16.

As The Post noted, Kirk’s family went after Schur during the hearing, and said it was “ludicrous” for him to fire at the teens to begin with.

“What Mr. Schur did to my son and his friend, to chase them down and execute him, over a car that they didn’t even take, is ludicrous,” Kirk’s father said.

Prosecutors also read a statement written by the surviving youth, who also ripped Schur for shooting at them.

“An adult chose to use deadly force against two unarmed teenagers. That is not justice, that is not safety, that is not accountability. I survived, but I am not the same. My friend didn’t survive at all. And no matter what we did that night, I didn’t deserve to be shot, and Xavier didn’t deserve to die,” the kid wrote.
