Get ready because Netflix’s beloved legal drama, The Lincoln Lawyer, is returning to the streaming platform this week. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming third season, including the release date and time, plot details, and more.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo returns as Mickey Haller, “an iconoclastic idealist who runs his law practice out of the back seat of his Lincoln, as he takes on cases big and small across the expansive city of Los Angeles,” the synopsis reads. The series is based on the bestselling novels by author Michael Connelly, with the upcoming third season adapted from The Gods of Guilt, the fifth book in The Lincoln Lawyer series.
Netflix renewed the hit legal series for a third season in August 2023. “The audience response to the show has been so gratifying and wonderful, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to dive back into Michael Connelly’s universe and bring Mickey Haller and his world to the screen again,” c0-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez said in a statement at the time.
The upcoming season raises the stakes for Mickey, as the attorney is determined to seek justice after the murder of a close friend. Lead star Garcia-Rulfo called season three “very exciting,” adding, “we see Mickey struggling with so many things at the same time — with romance, with the wives, with the cases. You never expect what’s going to happen, who’s going to be bad and who’s going to be guilty.”
When Is The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 Premiering On Netflix?
Season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at 3:00 a.m. ET / 12:00 a.m. PT. Unlike in season two, which had a two-part release schedule, all 10 episodes of season three will drop at once.
What Will The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3 Be About?
At the end of Season 2, Mickey learns that his friend Glory Days (Fiona Rene), who had helped him with the Menendez case in Season 1, was found dead. Mickey is determined to seek justice for her in the upcoming third season.
“This one is personal, because it’s a client that he actually really cared about and thought she had gotten out of that life and out of danger,” Rodriguez told Tudum. “Mickey very much is [wondering], ‘Did he have something to do with this? Could he have done more to help her?’”
“This was his friend… and there’s a nagging sense that he might have been responsible in some way,” EP Ross Fineman added. “We’re past the broken Mickey from Season 1 that has to get his sea legs again. In Season 2 — we liked to call that the Icarus season — he got all the fame and fortune, [he] really flew a little high to the sun and got burned a little bit. [Now he’s] a man on a mission, much more than the other two seasons.”
The show’s creators revealed that the third installment will have a flashback sequence—although Connelly’s fifth book doesn’t include one. “We decided that a fun (and poignant) way to come into the season would be via a flashback sequence that gave us some insight into how Mickey Haller became Mickey Haller — not just the brilliant criminal defense lawyer, but the husband, the father, and the man that he would come to be.”
