Communities throughout the Miami Valley have planned events and celebrations for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is on Monday, Jan. 20.

MLK Memorial March and Banquet in Dayton

The march starts at 1323 W. Third Street, near the Drew Health Center, at 10 a.m. It will end at the Third Street Bridge. RTA will provide shuttle services stopping at Perry Street from 10 a.m. to noon.

The banquet will start at 6 p.m. inside the Dayton Arcade, located at 35 W. Fourth Street. Dr. Rodney Wallace Kennedy is the keynote speaker. Individual tickets cost $75 and tickets for a table of ten cost $750.
MLK Youth Celebration in Dayton

The Neon will offer a free screening of ‘Six Triple Eight’ at 11 a.m. The doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and seating is first come, first serve. After the screening, Charity Adams Earley’s daughter, Judy Earley, will talk about the film and the service her mother did while living in Dayton. This event is targeted towards junior high and high school students.
6th Annual MLK Unity Program in Huber Heights

The ‘Huber 365: Protecting Our Freedom, Justice, and Democracy’ program will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Wayne High School, 5400 Chambersburg Road. A complimentary breakfast will be served first come, first serve in the high school cafeteria at 9:30 a.m.
Centerville-Washington Diversity Council’s Annual MLK Breakfast

This breakfast will take place at 7:30 a.m. at the Golf Club at Yankee Trace. Lynda Blackman Lowery will be the keynote speaker. Lowery is a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and she marched in events like “Bloody Sunday” and “Turn Around Tuesday.” She was the youngest marcher in the historic Selma to Montgomery March. Lowery also wrote ‘Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom: My Story of the 1965 Selma Voting Rights March.’ Tickets for this event are $25.
MLK Walk and Event in Troy

This walk will start at the Troy Senior Citizens Center, located at 134 N. Market Street, at 9:00 a.m. Participants will walk to St. Patrick Church at 409 E. Main Street. A commemoration service and community luncheon will be held at St. Patrick Church at 10 a.m.
MLK Day Skate in Piqua

The 36 Skate Club, located at 4845 W US Route 36, is holding an open skate from noon to 3 p.m. Admission is $6 and skate rentals at $4.
MLK Day Inspired Meal at Central State University

Central State University Dining Services will be serving a meal to students inspired by King’s favorite foods. It will take place at Marauder Café from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The meal includes fried chicken, collard greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread, macaroni and cheese, and pecan pie.
MLK March at Central State University

The Delta Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is hosting its annual MLK March. The march starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Central State University Sunken Garden.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Gathering in Springboro

This gathering will start at noon at the Springboro Performing Arts Center, which is located on Wright Station Way.
50 Shades of MLK Art Exhibit at Wilberforce University

The Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is inviting Wilberforce students to attend their first annual art exhibit at 3 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Those who attend are asked to wear business casual attire.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation at Wittenberg University

The convocation will start at 10 a.m. in the Weaver Chapel on Wittenberg University’s campus. The college will host New York Times bestselling author Nic Stone for a presentation called “Legacy of a Leader.” Stone wrote the novels ‘Dear Martin,’ ‘Dear Justyce,’ ‘Fast Pitch’ and more.
Oxford Community Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

This event will start at 10 a.m. in the Oxford Community Arts Center, located at 10 S. College Ave. It will feature an art exhibition with artwork from Talawanda School District students and a program.
Miami University MLK Day Event

The university will recognize MLK Day on Wednesday, Jan. 29., during their Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. week of service and reflection events. There will be a community silent march with the Delta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at Oxford Uptown Parks. After the march, Judy Alston, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Educational Leadership, will provide a keynote address reflecting on King’s legacy in the Shriver Center John Dolibois Room.
