PALM CITY — The drivers of two vehicles died in crashes caused by a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Interstate 95 in Martin County in the early hours of Saturday, law enforcement officials said.
The vehicle caused three crashes as it traveled south in the northbound lanes of I-95 in the Palm City area shortly before 3 a.m., according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol.
A wrong-way driver headed south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Palm City early Saturday caused three crashes that led to two deaths, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.
Two of the three crashes led to the deaths of the drivers in the other vehicles, the sheriff’s office said in a social media post Saturday. It also said the crashes were the result of reckless driving.
The driver of the vehicle said to have caused the crashes was taken to a hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed following the crashes and reopened early Saturday. Florida Department of Transportation highway cameras showed foggy conditions in the area around the time of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating. A spokesperson with the agency could not immediately be reached for comment.
