Although the holiday is celebrated each year on the third Monday of February, Washington’s birthday is Feb. 22 and Lincoln’s is Feb. 12.
So what does Presidents Day mean for the post office? Is the USPS still open for business on Monday? Will mail still be delivered? Here’s what you need to know.
Is Presidents Day a federal holiday?

Presidents Day was originally established in 1885 to honor George Washington, the first president of the United States. The holiday became popularly known as Presidents Day after 1971 when it was moved as part of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers, according to History.com.
When is Presidents Day 2025?
Presidents Day is on Monday, Feb. 17. The holiday always falls on the third Monday of February.
Is there mail delivery on Presidents Day 2025?
Like nearly all federal holidays, the USPS will be closed on Presidents Day, meaning branches won’t be open and the mail will not run on Feb. 17.
Is FedEx open on Presidents Day?
Although USPS halts operations on Presidents Day, FedEx ground and home delivery will still operate. According to FedEx’s website, express and ground economy will run on a modified schedule for the holiday this year.

Is UPS open on Presidents Day?
If you’re expecting a package through UPS on Monday, you’re in luck. According to the delivery service’s website, UPS pickup and delivery services are available on Feb. 17.
However, UPS SurePost and UPS Mail Innovations delivery will require one additional business day due to the holiday.
UPS store locations will also be open, but it’s best to confirm local hours before going.
