How Do Individual Critics Rate ‘You’re Cordially Invited’?
Among the top critics on Rotten Tomatoes who give You’re Cordially Invited a “fresh” review is Richard Roeper, who lauds the performances of Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.
In his review for the Chicago Sun-Times, Roeper writes, “Ferrell and Witherspoon play off each other with impeccable timing, and the supporting cast is universally terrific.”
Also praising the film’s leads in You’re Cordially Invited is Jake Coyle of The Associated Press, who writes in his review on RT, “That all of this hangs together is a testament, most of all, to Witherspoon deftness as a performer. In a movie in which Ferrell wrestles an alligator and Nick Jonas cameos (winningly) as a singing pastor, you don’t doubt Witherspoon for a moment.”
Peter Debruge of Variety also gives You’re Cordially Invited a “fresh” review on RT, writing, “The Prime release should play great at any scale while its stars are crossed at one another, but miscalculates their chemistry in a gratuitous and slightly icky epilogue.”
Among the critics who give You’re Cordially Invited a “rotten” review on RT is Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter, who writes, “A relentlessly vulgar and witless affair that not even the talents of stars Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon and a comedically gifted supporting cast can rescue.”
IGN Movies critic A.A. Dowd isn’t a fan of the film either, writing in his review on RT, “You’re Cordially Invited is overcrowded: There are too many kooky supporting characters, too many broad hijinks, too much syrupy sentimentality when the conflict between these frazzled saboteurs threatens to get too mean.”
You’re Cordially Invited is streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
