Reeves County and West Texas were rocked Friday night by 5.0 and 2.6 earthquakes that were felt around much of the region, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The first earthquake struck 32 miles northwest of Toyah at 11:23 p.m., with the second earthquake striking five minutes later. Citizens in El Paso and in the southern portions of New Mexico, all reported feeling the ground shaking.
Even citizens in Lubbock — nearly a four-hour drive from Toyah — reported feeling it.

Preliminary data shows that the 5.0 earthquake was measured at a depth of 6.6 kilometers and was reported to have caused strong shaking, but light to no damage is to be expected.
