A helicopter has crashed into the Hudson River with a child reportedly aboard the aircraft.

The New York Post reported that rescue efforts are underway after the chopper went down near Pier 40 on West Houston Street and West Street around 3:15 p.m.

NYC residents on social media said there was a “loud thumping noise” when the helicopter crashed. The cause appeared to be a broken propeller.

The FDNY is currently on the scene providing rescue efforts. According to ABC News, at least five people were on board.

All four have been removed from the 50-degree water. At least one person is dead according to the New York Post.

The conditions of the others is unknown at this time. Rescuers on scene were reportedly performing CPR on the child.

UPDATE: An eyewitness has revealed the helicopter split in two, with the rotor flying off in the sky. He said it sounded like a “sonic boom.”
