On Friday’s broadcast of Fox News Radio’s “Brian Kilmeade Show,” New York City Councilman Robert Holden (D), who is supporting Republican Curtis Sliwa’s candidacy for mayor of New York City, stated that the rise of socialist candidates for mayor of major cities is the result “of college students coming out of these universities, and this is what’s happening, they’re turning to socialists, socialism, or Communism.”

Host Brian Kilmeade asked, [relevant exchange begins around 1:04:45] “[Y]ou have a mayor’s race in Minneapolis, where the current mayor, a Democrat, just got beaten by a radical socialist from Somalia. And then you have a female socialist in Seattle just winning by a substantial amount. There will be a runoff again, but looks to win in Seattle. So, this is three straight socialists in their 30s who are taking over — could be taking over major cities. And I’m just wondering if you feel my concern.”

Holden responded, “I feel your concern. There’s a reason for this, and I taught college for 40 years, I’ve seen Communists, actually, as professors. Socialists, they call themselves, but I listen to the rhetoric and you know they’re Communists. And so, we’re seeing the results now of college students coming out of these universities, and this is what’s happening, they’re turning to socialists, socialism, or Communism. And it’s frightening. And so, we really have to get a handle on it.”
