Deion Sanders in Sin City as the next Las Vegas Raiders head coach? It has always made too much sense. That’s especially true after Vegas moved on from Antonio Pierce after just one season.

Sanders is currently the head coach at Colorado, where he led the program to a 9-4 record in his second season. Despite his volatile nature, Sanders has been linked to NFL teams after beginning his coaching career with Jackson State back in 2020.

We now have more on where the Pro Football Hall of Famer might land next. It’s an eye-opener.

According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sanders has expressed strong interest in becoming the Raiders’ next head coach.

“The person indicated that NFL-connected associates of Sanders reached out to the Raiders to express Sanders’ interest in the opening,” the Raiders insider reported on Saturday.

As I noted recently, the Raiders are casting a wide net as they overhaul a free-falling organization. That includes interest in Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, among others.

Where would Sanders fit into all of this? He doesn’t have a ton of coaching experience. But has enjoyed a lot of success. Obviously, a hiring of this ilk would be a splash for embattled owner Mark Davis and Co.

The backdrop here is NFL legend Tom Brady seemingly taking on a large role in the process after being appoved as a minority owner of the Silver and Black last year. The recent firing of general manager Tom Telesco also seemingly suggests that the Raiders are going big-game hunting for a new head coach.

Deion Sanders, Shedeur Sanders As Packaged Deal For Raiders?

Sanders’ son was the starting quarterback at Colorado over the past two seasons. He put up a stellar 2024 campaign in Boulder, throwing for 4,134 yards with 37 touchdowns. Sanders is expected to be a top-five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Vegas boasts the sixth pick.

It’s long been expected that these two might head to the NFL together. For his part, Deion is playing a big role in the pre-draft process as it relates to his son. A move to Vegas would magnify that further.

As for the Raiders’ potential interest in Sanders, nothing is known on that front outside of Brady reportedly leading the search for a new head coach and general manager.

“It’s unclear whether the Raiders are as interested in Sanders as he is in them. Tom Brady, who recently joined the franchise as a minority owner, is spearheading the search for a coach and general manager after the dismissal of Tom Telesco on Thursday,” Bonsignore noted. “Brady will have a significant voice in the Raiders’ decisions.”

The Raiders are expected to interview former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll next week. They have also been linked to the legendary Bill Belichick. But nothing will likely come to fruition on that end.

With the Raiders picking outside of the top five, securing Deion Sanders as their next head coach would be a way to almost guarantee landing his son.
