Charlie Kirk, a husband, father, and founder of Turning Point USA, was murdered at a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday by an assassin’s bullet.
He was 31 years old.
Tributes, prayers, and messages of condolences streamed in throughout the afternoon and on into Wednesday evening from those who knew and knew of Kirk. But so did anecdotes about who Kirk was as a person.
One such anecdote was shared by OutKick founder Clay Travis, who revealed that his interactions with Kirk had little to do with politics. Instead, Kirk wanted to talk about college football.
“I didn’t talk much about politics with @charliekirk11, we talked about college football,” Travis wrote on X. “He was a monster Oregon Ducks fan, loved them, built his events around their game times. I hope you let the team know @CoachDanLanning, and I hope you guys do something to honor him.”
Kirk attended games at Autzen Stadium in Eugene and frequently posted about the Ducks.
“Kirk also attended the 2015 College Football Playoff semifinal game at the Rose Bowl, the 2015 CFP National Championship game in Dallas, and the 2015 regular season game at Michigan State,” The Oregonian reports.
As of this writing, Kirk’s assassin remains at large.
