A child was hospitalized after being trapped by a tree that fell into an East Side home as a powerful storm system blew through Columbus Sunday night.
Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Geitter said around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, crews received a call from the 1400 block of Noe-Bixby Road about a tree that had fallen on a house. Two adults and a child were at the home at the time.
The fallen tree had trapped the child inside the home, but firefighters managed to pull the child out of the structure. First responders took the child to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for treatment. The status of their injuries wasn’t immediately available as of Monday morning.
Paramedics took one of the adults to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center for treatment. They evaluated a second adult at the scene.
The call came as a wave of strong storms moved through central Ohio, prompting severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington is evaluating damage reports from the storm.
