Charli XCX’s Number 1 Angel debuts on four U.K. charts following a Record Store Day vinyl release, … More
It’s been almost a year since Charli XCX released Brat, the dance-heavy, neon-tinted album that pushed her career to new heights. The collection became a full-blown global phenomenon, winning her several Grammy Awards and earning praise from critics and fans everywhere. Even months after it dropped, it continues to perform well on the charts – but this week, it’s not Brat’s success that’s most intriguing when it comes to the musician’s discography.
Charli XCX’s Number 1 Angel Finally Arrives
Charli’s Number 1 Angel appears on four different in the U.K., giving her a string of new wins. The project immediately becomes a top 40 win on all of the rosters, and it even breaks into the top 10 on all but one of them.
That’s an impressive showing for a mixtape that originally dropped back in the spring of 2017. At that time, Number 1 Angel wasn’t a commercial smash. But her diehard fans loved it then, and they’re clearly still in love with it now.
Record Store Day Turns Number 1 Angel Into a Bestseller
So, what changed to make the project a success all of a sudden? Number 1 Angel was recently reissued for Record Store Day, and a limited-edition vinyl pressing proved to be just what the title needed to become a proper chart win in the U.K. While it had once appeared on the Official Album Downloads ranking, it was limited to that tally until now.
Charli XCX Reaches the Top 10 on Three Sales Charts
Charli’s Number 1 Angel opens inside the top 10 on three specific sales-focused rosters. It performs best on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, where it arrives at No. 6. Right behind that position, at No. 7, is where it kicks off its run on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums rankings.
Charli XCX Earns a New Top 40 Smash
Despite all those sales, Number 1 Angel only narrowly manages to enter the top 40 on the most competitive U.K. list. The Official Albums chart, which blends physical purchases, digital downloads, and streaming data, isn’t quite as favorable to the collection. It starts at No. 37 this week. Streaming for the effort remains relatively modest compared to newer full-lengths like Brat, and the vinyl reissue is largely responsible for the top 40 debut.
Charli XCX Scores Multiple Wins
As Number 1 Angel gets its start, Charli now claims four top 10 titles on the Official Albums Sales chart alone — which is actually her lowest total among the lists. Her strongest showing is on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, where Number 1 Angel becomes her eighth release to enter the uppermost tier.
As Number 1 Angel Arrives, Brat Keeps Climbing
Even with her seven-year-old forward-thinking mixtape entering the mix, Brat is still doing well. The Grammy champion can currently be found on nearly every tally that Number 1 Angel just reaches — and in some cases, it’s charting even higher. This frame, Brat climbs 10 spaces to No. 12 on the Official Albums chart, nearly returning to the top 10.
