It’s been nearly two years since BTS singer Jin released new music on his own. He recently finished his military duties in South Korea, which means he’s free to get back to work. While he waits for his bandmates to rejoin him, he’s given fans something to enjoy—and buy—though it’s not exactly “new.”
On Friday (October 11), Jin re-released his solo single “Super Tuna.” The musician shared an extended version of the track, which proved to be enough to convince fans to purchase a copy, perhaps for the second time.
“Super Tuna” settles at No. 2 on the iTunes chart of the bestselling songs in the U.S. as of Friday morning. At present, only one other new arrival is keeping the BTS star from hitting the top spot.
Fellow South Korean soloist Jennie tops the American iTunes songs ranking as of the time of writing. Her brand-new single “Mantra” leads the charge, as it shot right to the top of the tally upon its release.
Jin first shared “Super Tuna” in late 2021. The song wasn’t heavily promoted, but rather, it seemed to serve as a gift for the singer’s fans all around the world.
The BTS artist has been fairly quiet for quite some time. He last shared a new piece of solo music almost exactly two years ago. In October 2022, he released “The Astronaut,” which still stands as his most recent solo win.
Since then, Jin has largely been focused on serving his country as part of the military. All men must fulfill a mandatory tenure of service in the South Korean army by a certain age, and that includes even musical superstars. Jin finished his stint in the armed forces this June, but many of the other members of BTS are still enlisted, so the group is on something of a hiatus at the moment.
“Super Tuna” has already reached the Billboard charts, but it could hit others, or rise to new heights on some very soon. The single reached No. 1 on the World Digital Song Sales list, and it could easily return to that position in a few days.
