Bruno Mars is headed for another hit on the Hot 100 in a few days, as his new collaboration, “Fat Juicy Wet” with rapper Sexxy Redd is headed straight for the tally. Where the tune will land isn’t clear yet, though since it tackles very mature subject matter, it may land below the top 10.

As Mars waits to see where his latest tune debuts, he’s still in charge of the Hot 100. The singer-songwriter and Lady Gaga hold atop the tally of the most popular songs in America with “Die with a Smile,” and as they do, Mars passes a musician he’s stated in the past is an inspiration to him.

Throughout his career, Mars has now spent a total of 38 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100. He breaks his tie with Jackson, who managed 37 stays in the penthouse during his lifetime, as he keeps his control over the chart.

Last week, as “Die with a Smile” earned its third turn in the spotlight, Mars landed on the same level as Jackson. Now, he’s passed the late powerhouse talent, likely for good, as Jackson hasn’t scored a posthumous No. 1 on the Hot 100 in the more-than-decade since he died.

Mars likely won’t tie another musician’s record for a while, as he isn’t very close to the artist with the next-most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Beyoncé sits right above the crooner on the list of the stars with the most frames in charge of the ranking, as she’s earned 46 frames atop the tally.

Mariah Carey leads all musicians in this regard, as she’s collected 97 weeks on the Hot 100’s throne. She adds to that sum almost every year, thanks to “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and its annual ascent on the chart.

Rihanna comes in second place, though she isn’t within striking distance of Carey’s ever-growing figure. The Barbadian pop and R&B star has appeared at No. 1 for 60 weeks throughout the years. She beats The Beatles, in third, by one frame.

Mars may continue to add to his career sum in the coming weeks as “Die with a Smile” leads the Hot 100, or he might swap one winner for another. “Apt.,” the singer’s other current focus, is not far from the penthouse. This week, the collaboration with Blackpink’s Rosé steps up to No. 3, and it could continue to climb in the coming month or so. If it does hit No. 1, Mars will earn his milestone tenth champion.
