The US Supreme Court will not stop Judge Merchan from sentencing Trump after a New York Appeals court earlier this week denied Trump’s request to delay Friday’s sentencing.
Five Justices denied Trump’s bid to stop Judge Merchan’s sentencing. The four conservative justices would have approved Trump’s application to delay the sentencing.
Chief Justice John Roberts and screwball Amy Comey Barrett sided with the far-left justices on the court.
“Justices Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch would have granted Trump’s application for a postponement of sentencing, the majority wrote,” CBS News reported.
CBS News reported:
The Supreme Court rejected a last-ditch effort by lawyers for President-elect Donald Trump to forestall his sentencing for his New York criminal conviction.
The five justice majority that voted to deny Trump’s application wrote that the evidentiary issues Trump has complained about “can be addressed in the ordinary course on appeal.”
They also noted that the judge overseeing Trump’s New York case has signaled he will not sentence Trump to serve any time in jail, writing “the burden that sentencing will impose on the President-Elect’s responsibilities is relatively insubstantial in light of the trial court’s stated intent to impose a sentence of ‘unconditional discharge’ after a brief virtual hearing.”
President Trump on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court to intervene. Justice Sotomayor asked the high court to respond by Thursday morning.
On Thursday morning prosecutors told the Supreme Court to allow the sentencing to continue Friday morning as scheduled.
Last week crooked Judge Juan Merchan ordered Trump to be sentenced in Bragg’s hush money case related to Trump’s payments to porn star Stormy Daniels.
In May, Trump was convicted on all 34 felony counts after he was accused of paying porn star Stormy Daniels, AKA, Stephanie Clifford, ‘hush payments’ through his then-attorney Michael Cohen in a scheme to silence her and stop the story about their alleged affair from being published in the National Enquirer.
Judge Merchan is not going to sentence Trump to any prison time and will allow Trump to appear virtually.
