Mar. 19—A blizzard warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday for Faribault, Freeborn, Martin and Steele counties as rain is expected to transition over to snow Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the greatest risk area remains along Interstate 90 as snow and high winds are expected to combine to create blizzard conditions.

Total snow accumulations of between 3 and 7 inches are likely with one map of the weather agency calling for 6 to 8 inches in Albert Lea. The heaviest snow is expected to fall from south central Minnesota into western Wisconsin.

Winds are expected to gust as high as 55 mph. Heavy snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches of snow per hour are possible within a narrow band of heavy snow.

Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel potentially life-threatening. The weather agency advises areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility and states travel should be restricted to emergencies only.
