It’s a big week for Billy Joel in the United Kingdom. Not just a big week, actually, but really a landmark one. The piano-playing icon has been a superstar in the country for decades, thanks to his once seemingly endless list of hits and a catalog that continues to resonate with listeners of all ages. And while several of his albums have performed well across the pond, one in particular stands out as his most successful when it comes to length of time on one very important chart: Piano Man – The Very Best Of.

This greatest hits compilation has become the go-to title for fans looking to stream Joel’s biggest tracks for years. It’s the release that listeners continually return to, and this week, all that activity helps the set reach a special milestone.

Piano Man – The Very Best Of Lives on the Albums Chart

This frame, Piano Man reaches a historic mark on the Official Albums chart, the U.K. ranking that blends physical sales, digital purchases, and streaming data to determine the most popular full-lengths in the nation. Joel’s best-of collection has now spent 300 weeks on that tally. It is far and away Joel’s longest-charting release on the list and, notably, the first of his efforts to rack up 300 frames on any U.K. albums ranking.

Billy Joel’s Longest-Charting Album

Piano Man isn’t just the first Joel title to hit 300 weeks on the Official Albums chart — it’s still the only one of his efforts to log triple-digit appearances on the ranking. His next-longest-running full-length on the chart is An Innocent Man, the 1983 blockbuster that includes the inescapable “Uptown Girl.” That album has managed 97 weeks on the tally, which is a solid showing, but still far behind the compilation’s milestone.

Billy Joel’s New Chart Peak

The same collection also earns a brand new peak on another important U.K. chart this week. On the Official Albums Streaming ranking, Piano Man lifts one space to No. 29. That is a new all-time high for the set.

Amazingly, Piano Man reaches that position 268 weeks into its time on the streaming-only list, which reflects the most-played albums and EPs across major platforms in the U.K. Since its debut on the chart back in mid-2019, the title has drifted on and off the roster, but clearly, it’s remained a reliable favorite.
