Wikipedia editors rushing to edit the page of newly-selected Pope Leo XIV, Robert Francis Prevost, made repeated bungles with typos of his name in the title, duplicate banners, and frequently undoing each other’s changes by accident. At one point this led to a duplicate article titled “Pope Leon XIIV” being created in the confusion. Editors also repeatedly fought over how to describe his nationality given his dual American-Peruvian citizenship. Shortly after Prevost was speculated to be a candidate, the first edit about his background focused on claims of insufficient action on sexual abuse allegations. Clumsy editing was also seen in…

The commander-in-chief touted the quality of American military products moments earlier. “Nobody makes military equipment like us; the…

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) might be insurmountably behind Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) in the primary to keep his seat, a poll shows. Although other polls have shown Cornyn down by similar margins, this one is significant. The latest poll was commissioned by the Senate Leadership Fund, a group long-aligned with former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) that supports Cornyn. The numbers are daunting for Cornyn’s prospects of winning a fifth six-year Senate term. Cornyn trails Paxton a staggering 56 to 40 in a head-to-head matchup, according to two people briefed on the survey, Punchbowl News reports. The…
Two more aides left John Fetterman’s office in recent weeks, the latest in a stream of staff exits amid the Pennsylvania senator’s shifting political persona and questions about his health. Fetterman aides Madeleine Marr and Caroline Shaffer parted ways with his team, according to two people familiar with their departures and granted anonymity to speak freely. They left shortly before New York Magazine reported that current and former Fetterman staff are increasingly concerned about the Democratic senator’s mental and physical health, one of the people said. Staff inside Fetterman’s office had been bracing for the magazine’s story in the days…

Credit: Gage Skidmore/Flickr A federal judge in Pennsylvania on Tuesday became the first to say President Trump can invoke the Alien Enemies Act to deport Tren de Aragua gang members. US District Judge Stephanie Haines, a Trump appointee, said President Trump’s description of the Venezuelan gang’s “incursion” into the US meets the threshold to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. “Having done its job, the Court now leaves it to the Political Branches of the government, and ultimately to the people who elect those individuals, to decide whether the laws and those executing them continue to reflect their will,” the judge…
As untested QB J.J. McCarthy gets ready for the 2025 season, he must contend with back-to-back … More international games. (Photo by Stephen Maturen/Getty Images)Getty Images The Minnesota Vikings have made multiple moves in the offseason that should allow them to put a stronger and more complete team on the field in 2025 than they did a year ago when they finished with a 14-3 record. The biggest question mark appears to be at quarterback where talented but untested J.J. McCarthy will step into the breech. He will attempt to show that he is ready for the position and can…
WASHINGTON, DC – MAY 12: President Donald Trump signs an executive order aimed at reducing the cost … MoreGetty Images President Trump’s executive order aimed at lowering the prices of prescription drugs in the US is unlikely to reduce them very much at all. While Trump made his announcement with great fanfare, he has little or no power to make the changes he promises. Trump’s idea, which is similar to a plan he failed to enact in his first term, would tie drug prices in the US to prices paid in other countries, which almost always are lower than in…
Cultural banality in America 2.0 Long ago, in an America far removed from its present facsimile, there used to be rock and roll. It was a great thing. It started my little seven year old feet tapping, when I first heard Ricky Nelson, Leslie Gore, Del Shannon, Motown, Gene Pitney, Bobby Vee, and all those Phil Spector girl groups. I loved the wall of sound. And then I happened to be tuned in to Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, on the day the crowd rated a new single from a band from Liverpool, I Want to Hold Your Hand. I was in love. My seven…
