Russia and China are moving, slowly but unmistakably, toward a structural alliance that is reshaping the global balance of power. But the two sides are progressing through this transformation at different speeds. Moscow has largely accepted the logic of deep strategic interdependence. Beijing, by contrast, still behaves as though it can preserve a carefully managed partnership in which China remains the senior partner while minimizing its own obligations. That model is reaching its limits. For years, the dominant narrative in Western policy circles has been that Russia has become the junior partner in an unequal relationship. Brussels think tanks, Washington analysts…
Friday on CNN’s “News Central,” Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) said the Trump administration was treating Cuba “like a country that we can crush and take over,” which he said was contrary to international law. Co-host Boris Sanchez said, “You’ve been critical of the U.S. policy on Cuba in this administration. And I do want to ask you about this CBS report that the DOJ is moving to indict Raul Castro in connection to the deadly shooting of unarmed planes operated by a humanitarian group in 1996. There were four men that were killed, three Americans, citizens, international investigators, a commission,…
On Friday’s broadcast of C-SPAN’s “Ceasefire,” Rep. Ami Bera (D-CA) said that “there’s a lot of Democratic regulation that actually gets in the way” of housing affordability and that should be an area for bipartisanship. Bera also said that there has been bipartisanship on the housing package in Congress. Bera said, “[O]n the regulatory environment, there’s a lot of Democratic regulation that actually gets in the way, some of the zoning laws, some of the NEPA and CEQA — CEQA requirements in California. That’s a place where Democrats and Republicans certainly should work together. You see Rep. French Hill (R-AR) and Rep.…
A bill that would revoke existing visas from the close family members of terrorists and prohibit future ones from being obtained has been introduced by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) following reports that Iranian regime officer Qasem Soleimani’s niece and grandniece were legally living in the U.S. While the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) arrested both the niece and grandniece of the notorious Iranian general in April, the agency revealed that 47-year-old Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and 25-year-old Sarinasadat Hosseiny had both been granted asylum by immigration judges in 2019. Despite claiming “asylum” status, the elder niece filed a naturalization application in…
The American and Chinese presidents talked Iran, Taiwan, and trade, but found little to agree on US President Donald Trump’s meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, was heavy on pomp, praise, and promises. But what did both leaders walk away with after the superpower summit in Beijing?Trump left Beijing on Friday, two days after becoming the first US president to visit the Chinese capital in almost a decade. The trip took place amid two paused conflicts – Trump’s trade war with Beijing and his real war against Iran – which directly affect China, and although both leaders hailed positive…
The summit of foreign ministers from the BRICS economic bloc on Thursday was derailed by simmering animosity between Iran and several of the other attendees, especially the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which has been obliged to defend itself against repeated unprovoked missile and drone attacks from Tehran over the past two months. BRICS is named after the original five members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (which joined a bit later than the others and added the “S” to the name.) The bloc voted to expand in 2023 and added Egypt, Iran, the UAE, and Ethiopia. Argentina was invited…
Rep. Brandon Gill: Fairfax County Democrat Prosecutor Helped Illegal Alien Sex Offender Evade Prison
Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) says Fairfax County, Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano (D) helped an illegal alien, accused of raping an underage teen, evade prison by offering him a deal with reduced charges and a suspended sentence. During a hearing before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, Gill questioned Descano about a case involving illegal alien Ander Cortez-Mendez of Guatemala. In March 2024, Cortez-Mendez was arrested in Fairfax County and charged by Descano’s office with carnal knowledge of a 13 to 14-year-old. “This is an illegal alien who raped an underage American,” Gill said. Two months later, Descano’s office…
VATICAN CITY (AP) – Pope Leo XIV has created a study group on artificial intelligence, the Vatican said Saturday, as he gears up to release his first encyclical that is expected to emphasize the need for an ethics-based approach to the technology that prioritizes human dignity and peace. The Vatican said Leo had decided to create the in-house study group because of the acceleration in AI’s use, “its potential effects on human beings and on humanity as a whole (and) the church’s concern for the dignity of every human being.” The announcement came a day after Leo signed his encyclical,…
Irish writer and Father Ted co-creator Graham Linehan accused Ireland’s public broadcaster RTÉ of engaging in antisemitism for planning to air an episode of his hit comedy show as part of its boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest over Israel’s presence in the competition. Linehan raised his protest during an interview with the Irish radio station Newstalk this week. He condemned RTÉ’s decision “in the strongest possible terms” and described it as “an antisemitic political gesture.” He also called for the resignation of RTÉ’s Director General, Kevin Bakhurst. “For some reason, Irish people are absolutely insane at the moment with antisemitism,” Linehan told…
The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division amended its lawsuit against Washington, DC Thursday, broadening it so as not only to target the District’s AR-15 ban but its suppressor ban as well. Breitbart News reported the initial lawsuit in December 2025, noting that it was directed toward the District’s “restrictive AR-15 gun controls.” The New York Times noted that the DOJ claimed the controls that target AR-15s and similar rifles via an “assault weapons” ban are “based on little more than cosmetics, appearance, or the ability to attach accessories.” On May 14, 2026, the Civil Rights Division amended the complaint, zeroing in on DC’s suppressor ban,…
