The Irish government is reportedly set to reject demands from the European Union to implement hate speech legislation after Dublin abandoned plans to do so last year. In September of last year, the Irish government scrapped plans to criminalise so-called hate speech in its Criminal Justice Bill, which would have allowed the state to send someone to prison for up to five years for “incitement to hatred against persons on account of their protected characteristics”. The move to abandon the controversial section of the bill came as Justice Minister Helen McEntee admitted that it did “not have a consensus” among…

ECAULT BEACH, France (AP) – Across the English Channel, the U.K.’s white cliffs beckon. On fine days, men and women with children in their arms and determination in their eyes can see the shoreline of what they believe will be a promised land as they attempt the perilous crossing clandestinely, ditching belongings to squeeze aboard flimsy inflatable boats that set to sea from northern France. In a flash, on one recent crossing attempt, French police swooped in with knives, wading into the water and slashing the boat’s thin rubber – literally deflating the migrants’ hopes and dreams. South Africa is a developing country, but is being hit hard by a First World problem: sports betting addiction. Johan Fourie noted earlier this year: In 2025, South Africans spent close to – if not more than – R1 trillion on sports betting. To put it into perspective, the total annual income of South African households in 2023 was R4.3 trillion. It should be noted, though, that sports betting turnover includes ‘recycled’ spending, i.e. when winnings are used for another bet. Still, sports betting is now a considerable share of household disposable income. Two years ago, I explained why this is a deeply…

Sade Perkins, a 2023 appointee of former Democrat Mayor Sylvester Turner, mocked the tragedy in a now-viral TikTok video by labeling Camp Mystic — a private Christian girls’ retreat in the Texas Hill Country — as a “white-only girls’ camp.” The timing could not have been more grotesque. Young campers and a counselor are still…
