CNN’s Jim Acosta is reportedly fuming over his demotion to the network’s late-night graveyard shift and has threatened to walk away from the struggling network altogether.
This development comes as far-left CNN undergoes a significant restructuring under CEO Mark Thompson.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Acosta, formerly CNN’s White House Correspondent and a prominent anti-Trump activist, may soon be getting a downgrade.
Acosta currently hosts CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta on weekdays at 10 am.
Yet, according to ex-CNN reporter Oliver Darcy, who now runs a media-focused newsletter called Status News, CNN chief Mark Thompson wants to move Acosta’s show to midnight, when most Americans have already gone to bed.
“The offer caught Acosta off guard. He had no reason to believe that his current show would be on the chopping block. In fact, his ratings have historically been some of the network’s strongest, both when he was anchoring on the weekends and now at 10am during the weekdays,” far-left Darcy wrote.
He continued, “On some days, Acosta even out-rates some of CNN’s prime time programs. So why force him to move his show to the 12am hour, a time slot occupied by virtually zero other hosts in the cable news business? The move would effectively exile Acosta to the Siberia of television news. He’d be manning down a shift when much of the country is fast asleep and viewership is at its lowest.”
Now, TVLine has confirmed that CNN’s long-running evening show, The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, will be moved from its traditional 6 p.m. ET slot to a new home at 10 a.m.
As part of the network’s latest programming shake-up, the show will expand to two hours, and CNN’s chief investigative correspondent, Pamela Brown, will join Blitzer as co-host.
The time slot change means The Situation Room will replace Jim Acosta’s current morning show. CNN has confirmed that they are in “active discussions” with Acosta about his future role at the network.
New York Post reported:
Acosta’s days at CNN may be numbered as the former White House correspondent known for his combative coverage of President Trump could be heading for the exits rather than accept a move that would see him broadcast a nightly show starting at midnight, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Another CNN staffer told Fox News Digital that Acosta was “getting hosed.”
“Acosta is a talented broadcaster who could handle any slot on the network,” the unnamed staffer told Fox News Digital.
“The midnight thing is shocking [but] it is what it is.”
This week, Acosta found himself in the headlines again after Rep. Tim Burchett delivered a scathing reality check, dismantling the CNN anchor’s anti-Trump rhetoric when he brought up the issue of J6 pardons.
“This is not Fox, congressman,” Acosta whined. “You can’t just spin a tale and pull the wool over people’s eyes. This is CNN.”
“This is the news. We are asking you to come on and tell the truth.”
Upon hearing this, Burchett gave him a devastating reality check regarding the failing news network’s dismal ratings.
“And that’s why more people are watching the Cartoon Network, Spongebob reruns right now. Jim,” Burchett retorted.
