The National Weather Service has issued multiple advisories warning residents in Louisville and surrounding areas to brace for incoming cold weather.

The agency issued a Winter Weather Advisory to be active from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and a Cold Weather Advisory that will be in effect 7 p.m. Sunday through 1 p.m. Monday for Louisville.

Parts of central Kentucky could get as many as 2 inches of snow on Sunday, according to the Winter Weather Advisory, with light to moderate snow showers anticipated to begin Sunday morning and last through the afternoon.

“Feels like” temperatures are expected to drop well-below freezing Sunday in Louisville. On Monday, wind chills could create temperatures that feel like negative single-digit figures, according to the Cold Weather Advisory.

People in the Cold Weather Advisory areas are advised to avoid staying outside for prolonged periods because of the risk of hypothermia.

Slippery road conditions are expected due to the cold weather. Visibility could also be compromised while traveling on Sunday as a result of snow showers and breezy winds of 15-25 mph, forecasters said.
