AC/DC’s “Back in Black” returns to a pair of Billboard charts after not finding space on any just a … [+]
“Back in Black” has long reigned as one of AC/DC’s biggest hits. In fact, it may be the most memorable release from the Australian hard rock group, as it remains incredibly popular decades after it first dropped. It’s not uncommon to see “Back in Black” on at least one Billboard chart, if not several. It’s also not rare for the tune to be missing entirely, as it has been streaming and selling well for years, and based on what else is happening on the weekly rankings and what competition it faces, AC/DC’s cut sometimes does vanish.
The tune fell off of several rosters in the U.S. not long ago, but it never stays away for very long. “Back in Black” is, appropriately, back on the Billboard charts, and it reappears on several lists at once this frame.
Between the two tallies it finds its way back to this frame, AC/DC’s smash lands highest on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. That list of the bestselling tunes classified specifically as hard rock features only 10 spaces, and this time around, “Back in Black” lands in last place.
At the same time, the smash also manages to settle in the final rung on another Billboard ranking. “Back in Black” breaks back onto the Hard Rock Streaming Songs list at No. 25. That tally of the most-streamed tunes in the country that fit the genre description in the chart’s title features 25 spaces.
Between the two rankings it appears on, “Back in Black” has climbed to No. 1 on only the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart. It’s thus far risen as high as No. 3 on the streaming-only ranking.
It’s not surprising that “Back in Black” has lived on the sales-focused tally for longer than on the streaming-only roster, seeing as it’s dominated one and not the other. “Back in Black” has now racked up 545 stays on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart, which is exactly 300 more frames than its tenure on the streaming tally.
AC/DC manages to keep two different hits on at least a pair of Billboard frames this week. As “Back in Black” returns to two of them, “Thunderstruck” appears on a trio of charts, and it rises on two of them. “Thunderstruck,” which also stands out as one of the group’s most popular compositions, lives inside the top 10 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, Rock Digital Song Sales, and Hard Rock Streaming Songs rankings this time around.
