Simon Fisher-Becker, who reached a career zenith in the original Harry Potter film and Doctor Who on television, died on Sunday, March 9. He was 63 years old.
“Today I lost not only a client in Simon Fisher-Becker, but a close personal friend of 15 years standing. I shall never forget the phone call I made to him when he was offered the part of Dorium Maldovar in BBC’s Doctor Who,” Jaffrey Management agent Kim Barry said in a statement. “Simon was also a writer, a raconteur and a great public speaker. He helped me out enormously and was kind, gracious and interested in everyone. My condolences go to his husband Tony, his brother, nieces and nephews and his legion of fans.”
In honor of Simon Fisher-Becker, here are some highlights from his career:
1) In 1990, Fisher-Becker debuted on television in Screenplay Firsts, a series showcasing short films and plays by new and young British filmmakers.
2) Fisher-Becker is immediately known for portraying the Fat Friar in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as one of the resident ghosts who Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) meets at his arrival at school.
3) From 2010-11, he appeared as Dorium Maldovar in three episodes of the iconic British science fiction series Doctor Who.
4) In 2012, Becker-Fisher co-starred in Les Misérables as part of the ensemble of actors for the number “Master of the House.”
5) From 2013 to 2018, he had the recurring role of Dante Harper in the British crime drama Waterside.
6) At the same time, in 2014, he co-starred as Tony in the six-episode British comedy Puppy Love.
“A legend of Who both in show and in the community. I never got to meet him properly, but friends who worked with him have nothing but lovely things to say,” wrote actor Dominic G. Martin on X. “A real testament to his character. Farewell sir.”
