LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – JULY 29: Ozzy Osbourne attends the Ozzy Osbourne Album Special on … [+]
Paramount+ has announced it is planning a new documentary that chronicles the recent health struggles and upcoming final performance of the legendary metal vocalist, Ozzy Osbourne. No Escape From Now, will be a feature length documentary revolving around the health setbacks Osbourne has faced since 2019, including his recent Parkinson’s diagnosis.
The official announcement for the new documentary was made on Osbourne’s social media, where a synopsis of the film was detailed – “This is Ozzy Osbourne like you’ve never seen before: an honest, warm and deeply personal portrait of one of the greatest rock stars of all-time, detailing how the singer’s world shuddered to a halt six years ago, forcing him to contemplate who he really is, confront his own mortality and question whether or not he can ever perform on stage for one last time. Addressing his health issues and impact of his Parkinson’s diagnosis, the film showcases the central role music continues to play in Ozzy’s life – also proving his mischievous sense of humor remains resolutely intact despite it all.”
In the same post Ozzy Osbourne states, “The last six years have been full of some of the worst times I’ve been through. There’s been times when I thought my number was up, but making music and making two albums saved me. I’d have gone nuts without music.”
Osbourne’s last two solo albums Ordinary Man (2020) and Patient Number 9 (2022), were both massive comeback records for the legendary metal singer. However, as the synopsis notes, 2019 was the start a very tumultuous period for Osbourne. Due to physical injury and later his Parkinson’s diagnosis, this six year period saw Osbourne postpone his farewell tour a number of times before eventually canceling it altogether.
While the cancelation did lead to Osbourne putting out another fairly decent solo record with renown producer Andrew Watt, his return to live performance has been quite limited outside of a few one-off performances at sporting events. Not to mention, the last fully fledged live performance Osbourne had planned was headlining the Power Trip festival in 2023, which he ultimately had to drop out of.
With the recent announcement of ‘Back to the Beginning,’ the Birmingham metal festival hosting Ozzy Osbourne’s final live performance alongside the original members of Black Sabbath, fans are already starting to speculate how much Osbourne will actually perform. Recently, Osbourne came out stating that he does not intend on playing a full set with the band, but rather ‘little bits and pieces.’ Provided there’s a litany of bands and guest musicians billed at the festival, it’s possible other iconic musicians will join the stage with Black Sabbath and accompany the band alongside Osbourne for his swan song.
