Bruno Mars has been a worldwide superstar for well over a decade at this point. He’s written, produced, and performed some of the most memorable and successful singles around the planet in recent memory, but his performance on one Billboard tally is surprisingly lacking, considering his impressive discography.
Thus far, Mars has only collected two No. 1 hits on the Billboard Global Excl U.S. The ranking was introduced several years ago, by which point many of the singer-songwriter’s most popular tunes had already enjoyed their heyday.
This week, Mars trades one of his No. 1s for another. He replaces himself atop the Billboard Global Excl U.S. as one classic that already ruled takes over for another.
“Die With a Smile,” a duet between Mars and Lady Gaga, lifts from second place to No. 1 on the latest edition of the Billboard Global Excl U.S. The tune has now spent nine frames in first place as it reappears at the summit.
As it earns its ninth turn in the spotlight, “Die With a Smile” ties with four other smashes as one of the fifth-longest-running leaders of all time on the Billboard Global Excluding U.S. It’s currently on the same level as “Drivers License” by Olivia Rodrigo, “Stay” by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber, “ABCDEFU” by Gayle, and “Seven” by Jungkook and Latto.
Last week, Mars was in charge of the Billboard Global Excl U.S. with a different tune. He and Blackpink singer Rosé kept “Apt.” at No. 1 for 15 frames. That cut owns the record for the longest stay in first place on the list, though its weeks were nonconsecutive on the ranking of the most-consumed songs throughout the world, only in the case of this roster, all consumption data from the United States is excluded.
In addition to his pair of No. 1s, Mars has seen just one other track reach the top 10 on the Billboard Global Excl U.S. “Leave the Door Open,” which was credited to the super duo Silk Sonic, as well as both members, Mars and Anderson .Paak individually, climbed as high as No. 4 in 2021, when the pair was dominating the music industry for a short time.
