Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours rises to No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart, missing out on No. 1 by … [+]
Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours has stood as one of the bestselling albums in America ever since it was released decades ago. The title was a blockbuster in its initial heyday, and in the years since then, Americans have not stopped buying the set, no matter how many copies it moves.
Once streaming activity was factored into a number of Billboard charts, Rumours began performing exceptionally well all over again. Between pure purchases and plays of its many hits on platforms like Spotify, Fleetwood Mac’s classic usually not only appears on the Billboard tallies, but rises into impressive positions—which is exactly what’s taken place yet again this week.
Rumours almost brings Fleetwood Mac back to No. 1 on a Billboard tally this frame. The Grammy winner for Album of the Year jumps from No. 4 to No. 2 on the Top Rock Albums list, which ranks the most-consumed full-lengths and EPs in that one specific style throughout the country.
This time around, Fleetwood Mac is held back from running the show once more by Noah Kahan’s Stick Season. That breakout success story is steady in first place for a forty-fourth nonconsecutive frame. The title has now spent 108 weeks somewhere on the Top Rock Albums ranking, with a little less than half of those stints inside the top 10.
Rumours stands as Fleetwood Mac’s only No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart. It reached that lofty position in January 2022 and has thus far managed three turns on the throne. It is one of a trio of top 10s from the band, as both Greatest Hits (No. 4) and The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac (No. 5) have also entered the loftiest tier.
The same blockbuster is on the rise on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart as well. This frame, it halves its position, moving from No. 6 to No. 3. On that tally, the pop-rock outfit is stymied by both Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft and Kahan’s Stick Season. Those bestsellers are comfortable at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.
Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours appears on three additional Billboard charts this frame, but it’s not nearly as close to the summit as it is on the rock-only rankings. The title pushes one space north on the Billboard 200, where it’s comfortable at No. 35. At the same time, it slips from No. 12 to No. 17 on the Top Album Sales list and from No. 9 to No. 12 on the Vinyl Albums roster.
