President Trump has responded to Canada’s decision to work with the United States to secure the northern border just two days after he imposed tariffs on Canada’s imports.
President Trump imposed his long-awaited 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada and 10% tariffs on China on Saturday. This was met with pushback from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced he would impose his own tariffs on the United States, which many in Canada think would be a big mistake.
In the fallout from the tariffs, within 24 hours, the Canadian dollar’s value reached a record low not seen since 2003, and Mexico’s peso also dropped 2%.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday agreed to implement a $1.3 billion border plan to reinforce border security. He promised “new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl.”
BREAKING: Justin Trudeau Caves to President Trump on Tariff Showdown – Will Implement Massive Border Plan to Stop Flow of Fentanyl
“I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl,” Trudeau wrote. “Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.”
“In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering,” he added. “I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.”
“Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together,” he concluded.
President Trump added that the 30-day pause on tariffs is only temporary and is dependent on “whether or not a final Economic deal with Canada can be structured.”
Likewise, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to supply 10,000 Mexican soldiers on the border to stop the flow of fentanyl and illegal aliens in exchange for a temporary one-month pause on tariffs as the U.S. and Mexico negotiate a deal.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump discussed the tariffs and plans to speak with Mexico and Canada upon arriving in Washington, DC, Sunday night. While speaking to reporters, he said, “Canada has been very tough on oil, on energy. They don’t allow our farm products in, essentially. They don’t allow a lot of things in, and we allow everything to come in. It’s been a one-way street.” The President continued, “We subsidize Canada by the tune of about $200 billion a year, and for what? What do we get out of it? We don’t get anything out of it.”
Now, he’s heralding “FAIRNESS FOR ALL!” with his successful tariff threat.
President Trump announced and celebrated his latest victory in Canada in a Truth Social post:
Canada has agreed to ensure we have a secure Northern Border, and to finally end the deadly scourge of drugs like Fentanyl that have been pouring into our Country, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans, while destroying their families and communities all across our Country.
Canada will implement their $1.3 Billion Border plan, and as per Prime Minister Trudeau, will be, “reinforcing the Border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are, and will be, working on protecting the Border. In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the Border, launch a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl, and we will be backing it with $200 million.”
As President, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of ALL Americans, and I am doing just that. I am very pleased with this initial outcome, and the Tariffs announced on Saturday will be paused for a 30 day period to see whether or not a final Economic deal with Canada can be structured. FAIRNESS FOR ALL!
