The Weeknd’s heavily-promoted new album Hurry Up Tomorrow finally arrived on Friday (January 31). The R&B, pop, and electronic set was pushed back from its original street date out of respect for those suffering from the effects of the fires that raged across Los Angeles for some of January. In a few days, the title may bring the Canadian powerhouse musician back to the top of the Billboard charts.
This week, the singer-songwriter has another reason to celebrate when it comes to the charts. His greatest hits compilation The Highlights reaches a major milestone, just days before The Weeknd fans received another collection to enjoy.
The Highlights has now lived on the Billboard 200 for 200 weeks as of this frame. The project improves significantly this period, as it lifts from No. 50 to No. 13, nearly finding its way back into the top 10.
Luminate reports that The Highlights moved 32,500 equivalent units in the past tracking period. That sum is up a little more than 100% from the week prior, with streams largely helping propel the compilation north on the Billboard 200.
All those plays on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music—which likely increased thanks in large part to anticipation around Hurry Up Tomorrow—also ensure that The Highlights climbs on several other Billboard tallies. The set bolts from No. 37 to No. 9 on the Top Streaming Albums list, where the title earns its first frame inside the loftiest space.
The Highlights also lives inside the top 10 on two other rankings in the U.S. The Weeknd’s hits-packed release bolts from No. 16 to No. 6 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart this week.
The Weeknd almost found his way to No. 1 on one more roster, but he misses out on doing so by just a single space. The Highlights steps up from fourth place to the runner-up rung on the Top R&B Albums chart, as it hits 201 turns on that genre-specific tally.
The Highlights arrived around The Weeknd’s Super Bowl halftime show performance, which was part of the 2021 game. The compilation peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, unable to become another leader for the Grammy winner.
The Weeknd has now seen three albums spend at least 200 weeks on the Billboard 200 throughout his career. Starboy, his longest-running winner, is up to 377 frames, a sum it adds to this period. Beauty Behind the Madness, which doesn’t appear on the list at the moment, has racked up 333 stays on the chart.
