Den of Thieves 2: Pantera—an action thriller starring Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr.—is new in theaters.
Rated R, Den of Thieves 2 – Pantera is the long-awaited sequel to the 2018 hit Den of Thieves, which starred Butler, Jackson, Pablo Schreiber and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.
The official logline for the sequel reads, “In Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, Big Nick (Butler) is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie (Jackson), who is embroiled in the treacherous and unpredictable world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange.”
Written and directed by original Den of Thieves filmmaker Christian Gudegast, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera plays in Thursday previews before opening in theaters nationwide on Friday.
Currently, the only way you can see Den of Thieves 2: Pantera is in theaters, so check your local listings for showtimes. After that, the first stop on the home entertainment front for the film will be on digital streaming via premium video on demand.
While some studios take a wait-and-see approach to PVOD releases that are related to a film’s financial success, others follow a set pattern. Den of Thieves 2: Pantera studio Lionsgate tends to follow a pattern with its films, which generally have a three-week to one-month window in theaters before they become available on PVOD.
For example, Lionsgate’s remake of The Crow and film adaptation of the video game Borderlands both made their PVOD debuts three weeks after they opened in theaters, while it took just over a month for the studio’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to appear on digital streaming.
As such, viewers can expect Den of Thieves 2: Pantera to arrive on PVOD anytime between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7.
What Streaming Service Will Get ‘Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera’ First?
Per an agreement between Lionsgate and STARZ, Den of Thieves 2: Pantera will stream on STARZ’s online app first.
However, the wait for Lionsgate’s films to appear on STARZ is much longer than the time it takes from the studio’s theatrical to PVOD debuts. On average, the theatrical to STARZ SVOD window is five to six months.
For example, The Crow is taking just under six months to arrive on STARZ (Aug. 23, 2024, theatrical opening/Feb. 19 SVOD debut), while The Best Christmas Pageant Ever will take about five months before it starts streaming on STARZ (Nov. 10, 2024, theatrical opening/March 31 SVOD).
Similarly, Lionsgate’s Borderlands took nearly five months to debut on STARZ (Aug. 9, 2024, theatrical opening/Dec. 24, 2024, SVOD debut).
As such, viewers shouldn’t expect to watch Den of Thieves 2: Pantera on STARZ until sometime between June 7 and July 4.
