Anora—the Golden Globe-nominated comedy starring Mikey Madison—is now available to rent for less on digital streaming.
Written and directed by Sean Baker, Anora was nominated for five Golden Globes in the Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, including Best Motion Picture, Best Female Actor for Madison, Best Supporting Actor for Yura Borisov and Best Director and Best Screenplay for Baker.
Anora opened in theaters in limited release on Oct. 18, 2024, before expanding to a nationwide release on Nov. 8. The logline for the film reads, “Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as his parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.”
Madison stars as Anora, aka Ani, while Mark Eydelshteyn plays the oligarch’s son, Ivan. Borisov plays Igor, one of the oligarch’s men tasked with convincing Ivan to annul the marriage to Anora. The film also stars Karren Karagulian and Vache Tovmasyan.
Anora, which was released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Dec. 17, dropped in rental price on PVOD on Tuesday from $14.99 for a 48-hour period to $9.99. The film is still available for digital purchase for $19.99.
Rated R, Anora is available on a variety of digital platforms, including Prime Video, AppleTV and VUDU.
‘Anora’ Has Received Many Awards Season Accolades
In addition to the film’s five nominations at the Golden Globes, Anora received seven nominations for the 30th Annual Critics Choice Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Mikey Madison, Best Supporting Actor for Yura Borisov and Best Ensemble.
In addition, Sean Baker was nominated for three Critics Choice Awards, for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing.
Baker also earned the Palme d’Or for directing Anora at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Madison has also earned Best Actress honors from several critics associations for her performance in Anora, including the Boston Society of Film Critics Awards, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards and the Toronto Film Critics Association Awards.
Anora is also in the running at the Film Independent Spirit Awards with five nominations including Best Feature, Best Lead Performance for Madison and Best Director for Baker. In addition, Yura Borisov and Karren Karagulian are each nominated for Best Supporting Performance.
On the review front, Rotten Tomatoes critics gave Anora a 94% “fresh” rating based on 305 reviews. In addition, the film earned a 90% “fresh” rating on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 1,000-plus verified user ratings.
