There are still real cops in Canada.
A serious situation arose on Sunday night in Belleville, Ontario, with a heavy exchange of fire near the entrance to a synagogue, as the Jewish community marked the Yom Kippur.
A police officer is being hailed as a hero for his intervention, having being shot and is hospitalized in critical condition.
A Belleville resident captured the exchange of gunfire as a police officer providing security at the Sons of Jacob synagogue engaged the attacker and was shot.
The shooter was neutralized, and police say there is no continuing threat to the public.

“Police officer Jeff Smith, who was stationed outside the synagogue in an unmarked car, exchanged fire with Sean Ward, 29, near the Sons of Jacob synagogue in Belleville, Ontario, on Sunday night.
Up to 30 bullets were fired in the shoot-out just after 7pm about 50 yards from the entrance to the synagogue.
Ward, from nearby Quinte West, was left with life-threatening injuries and Police Officer Smith was seriously wounded and remains in a critical but stable condition in intensive care.”

“Jeff Lieberman, president and chief executive of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, said: ‘It’s devastating to hear that a synagogue was targeted in Canada on the holiest day of the year for Jews, where people should be able to go and pray. We’re very fortunate that the police officer was a hero who stopped this from becoming a real tragedy’.”

“Prime Minister Mark Carney and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre were among the public figures to release statements after the shooting.
Mr. Carney said: ‘Jewish people must be able to worship safely. To live free, open, proud Jewish lives. Canada’s government will do everything in our power to support law enforcement in ensuring that the perpetrator is held accountable to the fullest extent of the law’.
Mr. Poilievre wrote on social media that ‘this vile antisemitic violence in Canada must end” while urging Carney’s government to ‘act now to protect our people’.”
