The women’s basketball league has been engulfed in controversy after Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham said she wants to ‘protect young girls’ from ‘biological men.’

The women’s league is having a very difficult time deciding what the “W” means in the WNBA means.

Fever star Sophie Cunningham’s comments sparked an uproar. Then two former NBA players — 6ft 10in Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White — declared themselves eligible for the WNBA Draft in an apparent protest to expose the league’s double standards.

White, who played three games in the NBA for the Sacramento Kings, told Fox News Digital he is now transgender and wants to join the likes of Caitlin Clark and Cunningham on the court next season. He later posted a picture of himself in a wig celebrating his ‘feminine era.’

Now Caitlyn Jenner — who won the Olympic gold medal in the decathlon in 1976 as Bruce Jenner and transitioned in 2015 — is backing the two ex-NBA stars.

Jenner told Fox News this week, as reported by the Daily Mail:

“XX are in, XY are out. It’s that simple. And I think they’re doing a good job just to show the WNBA how…the hypocrisy is going on here. We have to protect women’s sports. I’ve been coming on this show for years and years. I want to protect women’s sports.”

It’s that simple.

So how did the WNBA respond?

League general managers and presidents met on Wednesday as part of an “anti-hate task force” to discuss athlete eligibility. They decided to continue the discussion at a later date.

And, of course, they lashed out at “bad-faith efforts” to “marginalize others.”

A WNBA spokesman said in a statement, via the Daily Mail:

“Today’s meeting covered a wide range of topics, including ongoing discussions on transgender athletes and the continued hate and vitriol directed at players online. We will continue to engage all league stakeholders in the coming weeks and months. We will approach these important conversations thoughtfully and in alignment with the values of our league. There are no immediate eligibility matters affecting the WNBA and we strongly denounce the bad-faith efforts to use these topics to demean or marginalize others.”

The league’s own collective bargaining agreement states that “only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA” — but it includes no specific language about gender identity or sex at birth.

Meanwhile, Far-Left Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve defended trans “kids” in sports, saying, “To me, it’s a human rights issue. Every kid has a right to sports.”

Sophie Cunningham wants to protect young girls. Caitlyn Jenner wants to protect women’s sports. The WNBA wants to lecture you about “bad-faith efforts.”
