Human Rights Council asked to intervene in seizure of historic church.
Iran’s insistence on obtaining nuclear weapons, it’s advocacy for the annihilation of Israel’s democracy, it’s demands for Sharia law for everyone – those are among the triggers for the current military conflict that has engulfed other Middle Eastern countries, the world’s oil supply, the Strait of Hormuz and the United States’ goal of ending the threats.
But there’s another war by Iran, and this one now is getting called out at the United Nations.
According to the American Center for Law and Justice, while the world focuses on the “war with Iran,” it is calling on the United Nations to address Iran’s abuse of Iranian Christians.
For example, the organization recently notified the U.N. Human Rights Council of Iran’s seizure of a historic Christian church, among a long list of other misbehaviors.
“Iran is one of the world’s worst persecutors of Christians, ranking 10th among nations that systematically target believers – interrogating, detaining, torturing, imprisoning, and even killing them for their faith. The numbers are staggering. In 2025 alone, Iran arrested 254 Christians for their religious beliefs, and it killed at least 19 Christians following the anti-regime protests in 2026,” the ACLJ is reporting.
Iran especially targets Muslims who convert to Christianity, even keeping records of church membership and surveilling new members to determine whether they are converts. … [L]ast year, when Iran arrested over 50 evangelical Christians, officials stated that they had ‘neutralized’ them.”
Even listening to them was consider illegal.
The ACLJ reported Christianity has been “heavily suppressed” for a long time.
“In May 2026, Iranian authorities detained three members of a ‘Christian evangelistic network’ that had converted friends and family to ‘Zionist’ Christianity, and ‘prayed for the victory of the Zionist regime.’ A month earlier, an Iranian house church leader, who had a Muslim background, was interrogated, detained, and abused for his ministry,” the group reported.
