CCTV video has surfaced of an Australian nurse using years of Jiu-Jitsu training to take down a violent patient.

Daniel Nelson subdued a patient after he was attacked by the intoxicated man.

The incident happened in 2024 at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Queensland but Daniel Nelson posted the CCTV video this week to bring awareness to the dangers of dealing with violent patients.

“What if he’d picked a nurse half my size? A new graduate? A student? Someone who simply couldn’t defend themselves?” Daniel Nelson said.

Nelson escorted the patient out of the emergency department when he was attacked.

The patient tried to rush back inside the hospital and threw several punches at the healthcare worker.

Nelson immediately grabbed the patient, flipped him onto the ground, and put him in a headlock.

Daniel Nelson is a registered nurse with the Australian Army, according to Australian outlet Nine.com.au.

The video of the incident has gone viral with more than 1.5 million views in less than 24 hours.

“The patient had been verbally abusing staff, spitting on the floor, and behaving aggressively,” Nelson said.

“After being asked to leave, I escorted him outside.”

“Somewhere along the way, he decided assaulting the nurse was a good idea,” he said.

Daniel Nelson restrained the patient until security officers arrived.

The patient pleaded guilty to common assault and was hit with a $450 fine.
