Two children killed in strike on Tehran suburb – emergency services

The deaths follow an attack on girls’ elementary school in Minab, in which more than 160 lost their lives

A strike on a residential area in the Qods suburb of Tehran has killed least two children, local officials have said. An attack on girls’ elementary school in Minab on the first day of the US-Israel war on Iran led to more than 160 losing their lives.

The bombing in Qods also left some 17 people wounded, a Tehran Province emergency services statement on Friday. The injured, ten of whom were women, have been rushed to hospital, it added.

The emergency services have condemned the strike as an “inhumane act” and “crime against civilians,” but did not name the party responsible for it.

Iranian state TV reported several explosions across the capital on Friday, adding that missiles also struck not far from an area in the city center where a major pro-government rally had been taking place.

High-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani and head of the Atomic Energy Organization Mohammad Eslami, reportedly participated in the demonstration on Quds Day, marked on the last Friday of Ramadan, in support of the Palestinian cause.

On February 28, at least 175 people, almost all of whom were children, were killed in the attack on the Shajarah Tayyebeh girls’ school in the coastal city of Minab in south-eastern Iran.

Tehran accused the US and Israel of a “war crime.” An Israeli military spokesman denied any involvement, while officials in Washington insisted that the US military does not target civilians. US President Donald Trump claimed that the school had been hit by Iran itself “because they’re very inaccurate… with their munitions.”

However, The New York Times reported on Wednesday, citing American military officials, that an ongoing inquiry has found the US preliminarily responsible for the deadly strike in Minab.

Investigators believe the US Central Command relied on outdated targeting data from the Defense Intelligence Agency that still classified the school building as part of a military compound, even though it had been converted into an educational institution over a decade ago, the sources said.
