India and Afghanistan have only seen a ‘fraction’ of Pakistan’s military capabilities – Islamabad

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has called on New Delhi to return to the negotiating table

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has called on India to return to the “negotiating table,” while asserting that New Delhi and Kabul have only seen a “fraction” of Islamabad’s military capabilities.

In an address to the joint session of Pakistan’s parliament on Monday, Zardari said war was a last resort and that he has been a “lifelong advocate” of regional peace.

“For us, war is always the last option,” Zardari said. “No state accepts serial attacks on its soil… We have let both India and Afghanistan see a fraction of our capabilities.”

Pakistan and India engaged in a four-day military confrontation last May after a terrorist attack in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists.

Islamabad and Kabul have periodically exchanged fire since October 2025.

Pakistan launched heavy fire and airstrikes at its western neighbor early on Friday in response to Afghan Taliban forces killing two soldiers while firing at Pakistani border positions the day before.

Pakistan claimed victory in its latest clash with Afghanistan, claiming that its western neighbor lost 1,000 lives in last week’s cross-border escalation.

“This was not just a military victory; it was an expression of our national resolve in crisis,” Zardari said.

The Pakistani president also noted that he wanted peace with India, but added, “Make no mistake. We are ready for you. My message to them is to move away from war theaters to meaningful negotiating tables because that is the only path for regional security… India must listen to us attentively: Pakistan will continue to give its fullest diplomatic and moral support to the just cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Pakistan claims the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in its entirety, while administering about 30% of its area. About 55% is under Indian administration, while the rest is controlled by China.
