‘Chatbot Monogamy:’ AI Wars Intensify as Users Begin Choosing Allegiances

The competition between AI companies Anthropic and OpenAI has reached a new level of intensity as users signal a shift towards “chatbot monogamy” rather than experimenting with multiple platforms.

Business Insider reports that the escalating tension between Anthropic and OpenAI, the companies behind the popular chatbots Claude and ChatGPT respectively, has moved beyond corporate competition into a public dispute that is forcing users to take sides. The conflict reached a critical point following a fight between Anthropic and the Department of War over government usage of its technology, with OpenAI stepping in to fill the gap.

When Anthropic maintained its position and refused to compromise on the issue, President Donald Trump responded by banning federal agencies from using Anthropic’s products. Within hours of this ban, OpenAI secured an agreement with the Pentagon, effectively positioning itself as the government’s preferred AI partner.

The dispute represents more than just corporate rivalry. It highlights the increasingly heated competition between two of the most significant players in the AI industry. The companies have engaged in various competitive tactics, from creating pointed Super Bowl advertisements to avoiding collaborative opportunities with creators its userbase may not like. Now, the battle lines are being drawn between the AI giants.

Anthropic has embraced the controversy and resulting attention. The company simplified the process for users to transfer their data from competing chatbot platforms into Claude. This strategic move has paid dividends, with Claude now ranking at the top of the App Store charts. A company spokesperson confirmed the positive impact, stating that every single day during the previous week set an all-time record for Claude sign-ups.

This development may mark the beginning of what industry observers are calling the era of chatbot monogamy. Multiple factors suggest that AI companies are increasingly pushing users toward exclusive commitments to their platforms rather than encouraging experimentation across different services.

The business models of major AI companies reflect this trend. Their most advanced and capable models are exclusively available behind paywalls, with the performance gap between premium and free versions continuing to widen. This pricing strategy creates a clear incentive for users who want access to cutting-edge capabilities to commit to a paid subscription.

The push toward user commitment comes at a crucial time for AI companies facing substantial pressure to demonstrate viable and sustainable business models. Many of these companies are potentially preparing for public market debuts, making a stable base of paying subscribers far more attractive to potential investors than a large pool of users accessing free versions of their products.

As the battle for market share and public opinion between AI rivals takes center stage, it is becoming even more important for conservatives to understand the ramifications of this technology on their family, job, and the future of America. Breitbart News social media director Wynton Hall has written his forthcoming book, book Code Red: The Left, the Right, China, and the Race to Control AI, to serve as the definitive guide on how the MAGA movement can create positions on AI that benefit humanity without handing control of our nation to the leftists of Silicon Valley or allowing the Chinese to take over the world.

In Code Red, Breitbart social media director Wynton Hall exposes where that power hides, how it operates, how conservatives can navigate the AI political battlescape, avert its landmines, and turn peril into promise. AI decides what you see and what gets censored. It’s quietly rewiring our whole way of life. Jobs. Schools. Family. Church. Even national security. All of it will shock-test our civic order.

Inside Code Red, you will discover:

  • Why AI is wired for woke indoctrination—and how to resist it.
  • How elites plan to weaponize AI job losses to push dependency.
  • How America can beat China without becoming China.
  • How to prepare your kids for the blinding speed of AI disruption.
  • The new national security threats AI unleashes—and how we defend against them.
  • Why “AI girlfriends” are luring millions—and what it will take to preserve authentic human connection.
  • How AI will test faith and meaning—and why spiritual renewal may be its most surprising outcome.

Urgent, deeply researched, and written with page-turner elegance, Code Red is the conservative battle plan for the AI era. Either we wake up and fight back, or we lose everything that made America free.
