WASHINGTON–FIFA President Gianni Infantino bestowed the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize on President Donald Trump Friday for his work to settle conflicts around the globe, including his historic Middle East peace deal.

Infantino announced Trump as the recipient of the prize and invited the commander-in-chief on stage at the Kennedy Center ahead of the 2026 World Cup Draw.

“Mr. President, this is your prize. This is your peace prize. There is also a beautiful medal for you that you can wear everywhere you want to go,” Infantino said.

Trump promptly put the medal on. Infantino read the certificate announcing the reasons Trump is its first recipient:

The FIFA Peace Prize is presented annually on behalf of the billions of football-loving people from around the world to a distinguished individual who exemplifies an unwavering commitment to advancing peace and unity throughout the world through their notable leadership and action, and therefore FIFA… awards the 2025 FIFA Peace Prize… to Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, in recognition of his exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.

Trump said the award is “truly one of the great honors of my life,” adding that “beyond the awards… we saved millions and millions of lives.”

Trump highlighted conflicts he has settled, including the finalization of the Washington Accords a day earlier between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He also noted the ceasefire he brokered between India and Pakistan.

“So many different wars that were able to end, in some cases, a little bit before they started, just right before they started… but we got them done, and it’s such an honor to be with Gianni,” he said.

He thanked First Lady Melania Trump, who was on hand, and his family.

He also acknowledged Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

“We’ve worked closely with those two countries, and the coordination, and friendship, and relationship has been outstanding. And I want to thank you both very much, and your countries very much,” he said.

“But most importantly, I just want to thank everybody. The world is a safer place,” he added.

In addition to ending conflicts between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and India and Pakistan, Trump has settled conflicts or achieved ceasefires between Egypt and Ethiopia, Israel and Iran, Cambodia and Thailand, and Armenia and Azerbaijan, while also achieving the historic Middle East peace deal. Moreover, Trump reportedly helped prevent a potential escalation between Serbia and Kosovo.
