Pennsylvania Senators Dave McCormick (R) and John Fetterman (D) – Screencap of Twitter/X video.

The rest of the U.S. Senate could learn a lesson from Pennsylvania Senators Dave McCormick, a Republican and John Fetterman, a Democrat.

Even though McCormick and Fetterman are members of different parties, they recently united to make a video to call for the end of the government shutdown.

Both of these men have voted to end the shutdown as well.

Partial transcript via Eric Daugherty on Twitter/X:

FETTERMAN: “Even though we are in a different party. We both want to talk about why we believe it’s so important to reopen this government.”

MCCORMICK: “23 days, 12 votes, Senator Fetterman and I have both voted to open up the government. We agree on that 100%. It’s really starting to hurt Pennsylvania. And Pennsylvania’s air traffic controllers, border patrol, and also 2 million recipients of SNAP.”

FETTERMAN: “We both vote to open up our government. We’re in a different party. We’re on the same team for Pennsylvania and our nation.”

These men have the voting to back this up.

Trib Live reports:

Fetterman, McCormick back Senate-rejected plan to pay some federal workers during shutdown

Pennsylvania’s two U.S. senators — Republican Dave McCormick and Democrat John Fetterman — voted Thursday to pay some federal workers during the government shutdown, but the GOP measure failed to get enough support in the Senate.

Democrats tried to push through a measure of their own that would have paid all federal workers during the shutdown, but the GOP-controlled Senate didn’t take up the proposal.

Fetterman, of Braddock, was one of three Democrats to vote in favor of the GOP-backed bill, which would have paid employees including air traffic controllers, members of the military, border patrol agents and others deemed essential who are forced to work during the shutdown. The bill needed 60 votes to pass, but failed, 54-45.

McCormick, of Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood, was one of the cosponsors of the bill.

Fetterman and McCormick have found common ground on a number of issues this year, despite being from different parties in a deeply divided Washington.

Congratulations to these men for working together to create this positive message and call for an end to the shutdown.

Are all of the other senators listening?
