Hamtramck, Michigan has become ground zero for election fraud in the state, and at the center of the scandal is Democrat City Councilman Mohammed Hassan.
On Thursday, a judge ruled there is evidence that Hassan forged an absentee ballot application during the 2023 election, confirming what Republicans have warned about for years: Democrats exploit absentee ballots to rig the system.
Hassan, a Democrat, faces charges of forging a signature, election law forgery, and making false statements in connection with an absentee ballot application.

The case involves Hamtramck resident Zerin Sultana, who testified she never signed the application, never asked for an absentee ballot, and does not even vote.
Despite this, Hassan signed the form, claiming he had assisted her.
A Michigan State Police handwriting analysis proved the signature was not hers.
Judge Alexis Krot ruled the evidence shows Hassan knowingly signed that he assisted in filing an application he knew was fraudulent.
“She said she didn’t sign it, meaning someone else signed it,” Krot said. “That’s the problem here.”
This is not an isolated case. Another Democrat councilman, Muhtasin Sadman, is also charged with election fraud and will face his own preliminary hearing next week.
Sadman is also facing two felony charges for attempting to vote as an unqualified elector, a serious offense under Michigan election law.
Prosecutors allege he knowingly tried to cast a ballot despite being ineligible, which carries potential prison time and heavy fines.
Such charges are rarely brought unless officials believe there is clear evidence of intentional misconduct, highlighting the gravity of the case and the broader concerns about election integrity in local races.
Prosecutors believe the two may have participated in a larger scheme involving absentee ballots from newly naturalized citizens—ballots Democrats allegedly filled out with their preferred candidates.
The scandal has torn apart Hamtramck’s local government.
City Manager Max Garbarino, who first raised alarms about the fraud, was suspended and then fired. Even the police chief was removed amid FBI involvement.
Instead of rewarding transparency, Hamtramck’s Democrat leadership punished the whistleblower, proving just how entrenched corruption has become.
For years, Republicans have fought to secure elections through voter ID laws, strict oversight of absentee ballots, and harsher penalties for fraud.
Democrats have dismissed these concerns as “baseless” or even “attacks on democracy.”
Yet here we are, with Democrat officials in Michigan facing criminal charges for manipulating absentee ballots.
If Democrats are willing to cheat in a small city council race, imagine what happens in statewide or national contests.
The Hamtramck scandal is proof that Democrat-run cities cannot police themselves. Only Republicans are serious about restoring trust in America’s elections.
