George Santos Says Trump Gave Him “A New Chance at Life” After Sentence Commutation

Former Congressman George Santos took to social media on Friday with an emotional message of gratitude following President Donald Trump’s decision to commute his prison sentence.

In a lengthy post, Santos described the moment as nothing less than a “second chance at life,” crediting both his faith and Trump’s intervention for what he now sees as a new beginning.

Santos opened his statement by thanking “our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” admitting his life had been marked by “mistakes” and “stumbles,” but underscoring that he never lost his faith.

He described God’s grace as the force that carried him during his lowest points, framing his release as an opportunity to grow and change.

But it was his praise for Trump that drew the most attention.

Santos revealed that he had spoken directly with the President earlier in the day, calling the conversation unforgettable.

He portrayed Trump as not only a strong leader but also a man who believes in mercy and redemption.

According to Santos, Trump’s decision was based on a desire to restore the possibility of renewal in someone who had fallen from grace.

“His kindness, his humanity, and his generosity toward my family and me touched me deeply,” Santos wrote, adding that Trump had reignited his belief in second chances.

The former congressman, who represented New York’s 3rd District before his expulsion and legal troubles, also used the statement to thank friends and allies who stood by him during his trial and imprisonment.

He avoided naming names but emphasized that true friendships can exist even in Washington.

Looking ahead, Santos pledged to dedicate himself to prison reform and government accountability, citing his own negative experience under prison wardens whom he accused of dehumanizing him.

According to Santos, his time in prison was marked by hardship and unfair treatment. He has described the experience as deeply isolating, claiming that he was singled out and targeted more harshly than others because of his notoriety and political background.

Santos argues that he was denied basic fairness in the system, pointing to what he views as an excessive sentence and conditions that failed to respect his rights.

He maintains that his punishment was disproportionate compared to similar cases and insists that he was treated not as a regular inmate, but as a political scapegoat.

Santos framed his new mission around rehabilitation and dignity, arguing that no person should be degraded while serving time.

Santos closed with a declaration that he is “back as a new man, ready to work and do good.”

Whether the public views his transformation as genuine remains to be seen, but his message made clear that he intends to rebuild his life around the themes of redemption, reform, and gratitude to Trump.
