Joy Behar Claims Trump’s Use of the National Guard is a ‘Pretext to Stop the Next Election’ (VIDEO)

The View co-host Joy Behar fear mongered to her viewers on Tuesday that President Donald Trump is using the National Guard as a “pretext to stop the next election.”

During a segment on the show, Behar tied Trump’s deployment of federal troops to combat rising crime in major cities like Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Portland to a supposed plot against the 2028 presidential election.

The discussion on The View centered on Trump’s recent actions to address urban crime waves, which co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin acknowledged as a real issue but criticized for lacking collaboration with local officials. Griffin suggested better funding and training for police instead of federal intervention.

Griffin had said of Trump’s handling of the issue, “It’s not the way to address the problem if it even is as significant as it is.”

“There is crime in American cities; but the way to deal with it is get the funding that you need for police, get the training that you need, and work with local officials,” Griffin continued.

“This is a pretext to stop the next election,” Behar asserted. “That’s what I think it is.”

Behar’s leap to election interference echoes a growing narrative among Democrats and liberal media personalities who claim Trump is plotting to undermine or outright cancel the 2028 vote to cling to power.

Behar is far from alone in peddling these conspiracy theories.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has repeatedly expressed fears that there won’t even be a presidential election in 2028 under Trump’s administration.

In a recent interview, Newsom cited the Trump team’s actions as evidence of an authoritarian shift, warning that democratic norms are at risk.

Newsom doubled down on social media, posting a video claiming “Trump 2028 isn’t a joke” and accusing the president of believing rules don’t apply to him, potentially leading to an illegal third term.

Democrat New York Congressman Dan Goldman recently described Trump’s speech to military leaders as a “prelude to canceling elections” and urged immediate action to counter what he claimed are escalating threats to democracy.

Trump has repeatedly joked about running again or canceling the 2028 elections if the U.S. is at war, a quip made during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in August.

However, there is no indication that Trump is serious, and it remains unclear whether there is a viable pathway to achieve this.
