Police say a suspect opened fire on people gathered outside in Baltimore, Maryland
Six people were shot in Baltimore in the US state of Maryland on Saturday night, including a 5-year-old girl. Police say the attack appears targeted.
Some of the victims were sitting on a porch and leaning against a car, eating, when a suspect opened fire, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley told reporters at a news conference late Saturday night.
A five-year-old girl was shot in the hand and is expected to recover. Another victim remains in critical condition and is undergoing surgery. Homicide and District Detective units, along with Baltimore City Fire and EMS, responded to assist with the investigation.
Several streets have been closed, and police are advising local residents to stay away. Investigators are interviewing victims and witnesses to determine what led to the incident. No suspects have been identified or arrested as of Saturday night.
Park Heights is a predominantly black neighborhood in northwest Baltimore and the site of the Pimlico Race Course, home to the Preakness Stakes. The area has faced economic challenges and high rates of violent crime in recent years.
Baltimore, Maryland recently reported that there were 68 murders in the first six months of 2025, down considerably from 88 during the same period last year. The city, known to many from the police drama ‘The Wire’, regularly places in the top five in the United States in terms of homicide.
