Trump Is Keeping the Promises that Biden Broke for Our Afghan Allies

Trump Is Keeping the Promises that Biden Broke

For years, the United States made a solemn promise to our Afghan allies: stand with us, and we will stand with you.

These brave men and women—interpreters, soldiers, and professionals—risked their lives alongside U.S. troops, fighting for freedom and stability in Afghanistan. Yet, when the Biden administration oversaw the chaotic 2021 withdrawal, thousands of these allies were left behind, abandoned to the mercy of the Taliban.

Among them, 28 Afghans remain stranded in Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Humanitarian City, facing the imminent threat of deportation back to Afghanistan—a death sentence for many due to their service to America.

These 28 individuals, among them those who directly supported American operations in direct combat roles, are living in extreme and credible fear. The Taliban’s brutal regime has already hunted down and killed countless former allies, with reports of over 200 Afghan soldiers and police officers murdered after a UK data leak exposed their identities.

For the 28 Afghans left behind in Abu Dhabi, the clock is ticking. The United Arab Emirates, citing the U.S.’s failure to resettle, as they languished in a refugee camp for 4 years, has begun returning evacuees to Afghanistan, where they face arrest, torture, rape and execution. This is a horrific betrayal of our allies, a promise broken by the Biden administration’s inaction.

This betrayal has also taken a devastating toll on the warfighters and veterans who fought side by side with their Afghan allies. Many who served alongside these Afghan allies formed deep bonds, relying on their language skills, cultural knowledge, courage, and loyalty in the face of danger.

Watching their comrades abandoned and left to fend for themselves, often resulting in their deaths, has caused profound trauma. This has left countless veterans grappling with guilt and despair. Tragically, this broken promise has driven some to the brink, contributing to a heartbreaking rise in veteran suicides as they wrestle with the moral injury of leaving our allies behind.

But hope emerged last Friday when President Donald Trump learned of their plight. Unlike his predecessor, who left these heroes in limbo, President Trump acted swiftly, declaring, “I will try to save them, starting right now.”

His administration, led by Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, intervened to halt the UAE’s deportations and begin vetting these allies for safe resettlement. This decisive leadership stands in stark contrast to the Biden administration’s neglect.

We owe an immense debt of gratitude to the Trump administration for honoring America’s promise to our Afghan allies. Their actions reaffirm that the United States does not abandon those who risked everything for us. But the work is not over. The threat of deportation looms, and time is running out.

A simple, urgent solution is needed: bring these 28 Afghans to the United States immediately, using commercial or military air transport. They should be housed on a secure military installation while undergoing thorough vetting to ensure national security checks are met.

Those who served and sacrificed alongside U.S. forces—verified through rigorous background checks—must be resettled in America without delay, fulfilling our moral obligation, and for any who do not meet these criteria, arrangements should be made to relocate them to other nations willing to offer safe haven.

The Trump administration has taken the first critical step, but the clock is ticking. We must act quickly now and show the world that America keeps its promises.

Thank you, President Trump, for your leadership.

Let’s finish this mission and keep the promises that the Biden administration broke.
