Prosecutor on Epstein and Diddy cases fired – media

Maurene Comey is the daughter of Donald Trump’s longtime political foe, former FBI director James Comey

The Justice Department (DOJ) has fired federal prosecutor Maurene Comey, who worked on the high-profile cases against Jeffrey Epstein and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, several US outlets, including Politico, AP, and the New York Times have reported.

She is the daughter of former FBI director James Comey, who was dismissed by US President Donald Trump in 2017 amid the ‘Russiagate’ probe against the president. Trump later accused Comey of spreading “false statements and lies” and of being a “dirty cop.”

No specific reason was given for the sacking of Maurene Comey, the media claimed on Wednesday, citing informed sources.

All attempts by various outlets to get a comment from the sacked prosecutor, the DOJ, or the US attorney’s office have so far been unsuccessful.

One of the sources told CNN that Comey was “untenable” in the DOJ due to her father “constantly going after the administration.”

The former FBI chief is currently under investigation on suspicion of making false statements to Congress. In May, he was also questioned over posting a photo on social media showing seashells on a beach that spelled out “86 47.” Comey denied claims by Trump’s team that it was a coded threat to the 47th US president due to the number 86 being a slang for ‘get rid of’ or ‘kill’.

Maurene Comey was a lead prosecutor in the sex trafficking case against Jeffrey Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell. Shortly after his arrest in 2019, Epstein was found hanged in his New York jail cell. Despite his death being ruled a suicide, skeptics insist that he was murdered to protect prominent individuals supposedly implicated in the case. Maxwell was convicted and is currently serving a 20-year sentence.

The prosecutor’s firing comes as many Republicans are questioning a recent report by the DOJ and the FBI, claiming that no list of Epstein’s clients existed, contrary to what Trump himself had previously said.

The president attacked his critics on Wednesday, saying on his Truth Social platform that they “do Democrat work.” Only “stupid people” continue to insist on seeing the “client list,” he said.
