Vladimir Putin abruptly ends public appearance to take a call from President Trump.

The Kremlin’s Vladimir Putin cut short his public forum on July 4, 2025, all to take a call from none other than President Donald J. Trump. Live on camera, Putin excused himself, stating it would be “awkward” to keep Trump waiting and that the U.S. President “could get offended”

Vladimir Putin: Please don’t be angry. I understand that we could talk more, but it’s so awkward to make (Trump) wait. He could get offended. (crowd laughs and applauds) Thank you very much, good luck.

Following the call, President Trump told reporters he was “very disappointed” that Putin showed no sign of willingness to halt the conflict in Ukraine, saying “I don’t think he’s looking to stop”.

Despite this, Trump pointedly underscored Putin’s decision to answer the call promptly, noting that “he could get offended” if kept waiting.

The Hill reported:

President Trump said late Thursday that he is “very disappointed” with the conversation he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin and reiterated that he made “no progress” in ending the three-year war in Eastern Europe.

“I’m very disappointed with the conversation I had today with President Putin, because I don’t think he’s there. I’m just saying, I don’t think he’s looking to stop, and that’s too bad,” Trump told reporters late Thursday night after landing back in Washington after his rally in Des Moines, Iowa.

Trump also told reporters he plans to speak to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday.

Earlier Thursday, Trump said he made “no progress” during his call with Putin in brokering a potential ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

“We had a call. It was a pretty long call. Talked about a lot of things, including Iran. And we also talked about, as you know, the war with Ukraine, and I’m not happy about that,” Trump said in the gaggle with journalists.

“I didn’t make any progress with him today at all,” the president stated.
