ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1439 Hints, Clues And Answer For Wednesday, May 28thBy Erik Kain

Thor’s Day. The 29th of May. My last day in Scotland before flying back o’er the sea to the United States of America and home. I’ll miss this place, though I miss home a great deal at this point. I miss the wide roads and the ease of access to things like gas stations and bathrooms. I miss my bed and my kids and my dogs. Living out of a suitcase is lovely but you start to drag after a spell. I’ve learned a lot about Scotland on my travels, and I have a whole plan for what I’ll do when I return.

But enough of that. Yesterday was Wordle Wednesday and I gave you this riddle to solve:

A cowboy hung up his hat, tied a blindfold around his eyes, walked one hundred yards across a wide field and turned around, pulling the trigger of his rifle. The bullet went straight through the hat even though he couldn’t see a thing. How did he do it?

The answer: He hung his hat on the barrel of his rifle.

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

CRATE was a strong opener today, leaving me with just 61 words. I think all these castles are going to my head, however, as NOBLY was kind of a bad second guess, giving me no new boxes and leaving me with 13 words. SMASH cut that down to just two — AWASH and QUASH — and I was 99% sure that AWASH was an answer not that long ago. Lucky for me, QUASH was the Wordle! Huzzah!

Competitive Wordle Score

The Bot and I tied with four which means we each walk away with zero points and our May totals remain:

Erik: 22 points

Wordle Bot: 15 points

Depending on how tomorrow’s 2XP Friday game plays out, this could still go either way . . . .

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “quash” comes from Middle English quashen, meaning “to suppress” or “crush,” which in turn comes from Old French quasser (Modern French casser), meaning “to break.” This derives from Latin quassare, meaning “to shatter” or “shake violently.”
